In memory of Dr. Josep Antoni Rom Rodríguez (1964–2025)
The International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) deeply regrets the passing of Dr. Josep Antoni Rom Rodríguez, Rector of the Ramon Llull University, on November 8, 2025, at the age of 61.
Throughout his career—particularly within the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication and International Relations, which he helped to found—Dr. Rom Rodríguez embodied the mission of the Catholic university: to place research, education, and creativity at the service of the human person and the common good. His intellectual and spiritual commitment, nourished by a profound sense of dialogue and a sincere attachment to the university community, left a lasting mark on the URL.
As Rector, he combined academic rigor with humanism, fostering a vision of higher education rooted in cooperation, social responsibility, and faith in the transformative power of education.
The European Federation of Catholic Universities (EFCU) extends its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Rom Rodríguez’s family, and to all the faculty members, students, and staff of Ramon Llull University.
We pay tribute to a scholar deeply devoted to the service of others and join in prayer with the university community that his life’s work may continue to inspire future generations.
In communion of prayer.
