To be prepared to the European Citizens’ Initiative

The Initiative and Referendum Institute Europe (IRI Europe) is a transnational think-tank dedicated to research and education on the procedures and practices of modern direct democracy. IRI Europe is a non-partisan, non-profit association with headquarters in Marburg/Germany and brings together some of the top experts and practitioners of the initiative and referendum process across Europe and the world.

At the 2011 Vienna European Citizens’ Initiative Summit, experts and representatives from civil society and the worlds of politics, administration, academia and economics focused their attention on the final steps towards the introduction of the European Citizens’ Initiative. They issued the “Declaration of Vienna, On the introduction of the European Citizens’ Initiative” - a document to be read.
