Historique

  • concevoir les partenariats multi-acteurs pour le développement durable, comme étant une source d’éco-innovation ;
  • impliquer (a) les concepteurs des standards du développement durable (b) les investisseurs dans le développement durable, (c) les consommateurs durable et (d) les évaluateurs des performances du développement durable dans la dynamique qui renforcera le changement de système ;
  • revisiter le débat politique, basé sur les meilleurs pratiques repérées tout au long de la chaîne de valeur ;
  • contribuer au changement stratégique des entreprises en montrant les opportunités du développement durable et en maîtrisant les risques liés ;

Philosophie

Since 1994, EPE has proven that the way forward is not, as often proposed, a so called ‘stakeholder dialogue’ where just one sector is in the driving seat, but a Multi-stakeholder ‘Center of Competence’ which is co-managed, on an equal footing. Today, any successful organisation needs to be part of such a diverse network, able to build synergies across the value chain and provide access to the right actors In Europe and beyond. This approach is the most promising way to tackle complex issues that call upon the skill, knowledge, and experience of a wide range of stakeholders in order to drive the EU along sustainable paths.

The key reasons of public/private sector engagement in mutual benefit partnerships are multiple and include :

* An acknowledgement that public authorities, private sector and civil society have to join their expertise that are critical in resolving complex sustainability challenges ;

* A growing expectation from investors, customers, employees and other stakeholders that business plays an important role as a corporate citizen in addressing critical societal issues ;

* The realization that companies and civil society organistions are interdependent with their operations and all have the same responsibility for the health, climate, and humanitarian challenges of the markets in which they operate ;

* The notion that social responsibility not only carries business benefits for companies and social recognition for civil organizations but also helps manage risks and foster strong access to knowledge, innovation and opportunities these organisations might otherwise not be able to produce alone.
