History

  • The Institute For democracy in Europe was created in 1996 by Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, in order to contribute to the debate upon Europe, especially when it comes to institutional questions, at a time when many founding countries seemed to give up any ambition for a politically strong European Union.

Organisation/collective objectives

  • promote democracy at local, national and european levels
  • contrubute to the training of citizens and representatives
  • promote a large information to protect and guarantee the foundations of democracy

  • publishing of studies and reports on european construction and european news
  • organisation of Institute working sessions followed by reports
  • coordination of a forum of debate opened to every opinion

  • Towards a Europe of States managing on the federal model the competences they decided to manage together
