Abstract of the proposal

We ask that services of general interest (SGI) and universal services be directed by a Commissioner and a Directorate-General (DG) at the European Commission. This would allow for the implementation of a coherent and efficient policy for the granting of funding. It would be equally useful in creating a healthy and balanced debate with the Directorate-General for Competition, Consumption and the Fight against Fraud. This decision can only come from the future President of the Commission. After the new President’s inauguration, the European Parliament should ensure that he/she is sensitive to the SGI issue.
