The Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950 set European construction into motion. Sixty years later, the Union that Robert Schuman hoped for is at a turning point. Its success in preserving peace on the continent has exceeded all expectations. But Europeans, hoping that the Union would also assure prosperity, develop a vision for their future and be their voice on the world stage, are worried (…). Jean-François Jamet and Guillaume Klossa (…) offer a new strategy for Europe composed of 60 practical initiatives, based on a detailed analysis of the challenges faced by the Union. Like Robert Schuman and Jean Monnet 60 years ago, they show that Europe has the possibility, the will and the need to be ambitious and audacious. It is up to European leaders to heed their advice: Europe will be greater for it! - Foreword by Maria Joao Rodrigues, April 2010
