Young European Leadership (YEL) is reaching out to young professionals passionate about climate change and it’s many ecological, economic and political implications to join the YEL delegation at COP 23 from November 6 – 17.
The annual Conference of the Parties (COP) began in 1995 and brings together all signatories to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Paris Agreement was signed at COP 21 in 2015, with countries committing to keep temperatures “well below 2℃ above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5℃.” The following year countries ironed out implementation details of the Paris Agreement at COP 22 in Marrakech. This year’s COP is hosted by Fiji yet will be physically located in Bonn, and will include further discussion on the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Young European Leadership will send a delegation of seven young professionals to COP 23. As a representative of an official observer organization, these delegates will be given the opportunity not only to attend plenary sessions, side events, high level events and exhibits but to raise the visibility of young people at the COP.
If you’re interested in gaining an inside perspective of the COP 23 negotiations, working alongside fellow young professionals passionate about the climate change debate, and networking with policy makers, scientists, politicians, experts and civil society actors, consider applying for the YEL delegation at COP 23 today!
Apply by July 31st!
YEL delegates will have responsibilities before, during and after the conference. Before the conference, delegates will be in regular communication to coordinate tasks and deliverables. During the conference, delegates will conduct interviews with diverse stakeholders and communicate the day’s key developments via social media and written articles.
While YEL will work with delegates to identify sponsorship opportunities, YEL cannot guarantee funding for delegate travel or accommodation.
