Description

The European Movement International and Carnegie Europe will hold their first event of the year on Wednesday, 22 January 2020 (18:00-19:30) at the European Parliament, József Antall Building, room JAN 3Q (Le Grand Café Antall).

The new EU leadership’s promise of a “new push for European democracy” may open opportunities for democratic innovation and experimentation. But can European leaders follow through with this commitment? How can EU leaders and institutions connect downward and use reforms to improve democracy in Europe? And what role should civil society play to harness and catalyse this effort?

This event will mark the launch of “Six Ideas for Rejuvenating European Democracy,” a new paper that proposes constructive, practical ideas for how we – European leaders, EU institutions, and civil society – can get European democracy right. The event will feature an exchange of views between Eva Maydell MEP and Dubravka Šuica, moderated by Richard Youngs.

Eva Maydell MEP, President | European Movement International
Dubravka Šuica, Vice-President for Democracy and Demography | European Commission
