The ‘Fundación Francisco Ferrer Guardia’ is an NGO with a wide experience in the field of youth and civil liberties, supporting citizen participation as a democratic right and fostering the unification of Europe.

The Ferrer Guardia Foundation was created in 1987 and develops projects at the local, european and international level, through the collaboration with other organizations and the support of various institutions, both public and private. Its main activities are: Research and advice work, Organization of activities (workshops, debates), Specialized training, Communication activities and to provide Support and facilities for young organizations and young people.

Ferrer Guardia Foundation is also a promoter of a network of more than 180 local organizations and more than 20.000 members in Spain focused on education and young organizations, so the impact of the activities is always wide, multiplying effects.

Objectives

-Civil liberties, participation and democracy: to analyze, promote civil liberties and provide support for citizen participation as a democratic guarantee.
-Youth: to study what is actually happening with young people, having an impact on youth policies, advising and providing support on youth issues and promoting youth empowerment.
-Education: to develop research in the field of education, training on issues of participation and promoting education.

Main Activities

– Research and advice work addressed to volunteer organizations and public institutions.
– Conferences, meetings, workshops and debates. During the year 2013 we have organized more than twenty seminars, the last one with the participation of more than 40 young people from a dozen European countries. We organize sessions with different profiles of people. On one hand, we have meetings with experts, academics and referents from an specific area, and, on the other hand, we organize sessions open to all non-expert public, to make all the voices heard.
– Specialized training. We connect theory and practice. We want to open the research that we produce to the society and apply it to the needs of the society.
– Communication activities. We want to denounce and to make hear information concerning our areas of work.
– Support and facilities for young organizations and young people. Moreover, Ferrer Guardia Foundation has had the goal of creating a youth education movement, committed with the society, so the board is composed of youth associations (like youth groups, scouts, and non-formal education organizations, etc.) in conjunction with founding partners who belong to the University, non-profit organizations, among other fields. This situation allows the Foundation to have a wide and strong network and collaborations with other organizations in Europe.

Strengths

– Ferrer Guardia Foundation has more than 25 years of experience and it’s recognized as one of the most important organization in the civil liberties, youth and participation field. In 2013, our organization has been incorporated into the Spanish Think Tanks Guide and in 2012 was incorporated into the Guide: Think Tanks in Catalonia.
– We have also have an ‘Institute of Social Analysis and Public Policy’ that develops research that generate knowledge focus on the needs of the volunteer organizations or other institutions and to act as a watch of civil liberties and democracy. We transfer the research through specialized training and communication activities. We work through the theory and the practice.
– Ferrer Guardia Foundation is the promoter of a network of more than 180 local organizations and more than 20.000 members in Spain: the Secular and Progressive Movement. Additionally, these organizations belong to another platforms and organizations so the impact of the activities is always wide.
– Ferrer Guardia Foundation board is composed of youth associations (like youth groups, scouts, and non-formal education organizations, etc.) in conjunction with founding partners who belong to the University, non-profit organizations, among other fields. This situation allows the Foundation to have a wide and strong network and collaborations with other organizations in Europe.
