Sauvons l’Europe is a pro-European and progressive movement. It is committed to building a Europe concerned with social and human development, a democratic space of protection of human rights, an environmental actor in world affairs.

The movement Sauvons l’Europe was created in June 2005 following the rejection by a majority of French voters of the project of Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe, on May 29, 2005. It originated in a call from Joel Roman and Jean-Pierre Mignard published in the Nouvel Observateur. The call has raised over 4,000 individual signatures. Among the first signatories are mainly politicians (Elizabeth Guigou, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Olivier Duhamel, Harlem Désir, ...), trade unions and associative representatives, intellectuals of the pro-European left-wing.

Sauvons l’Europe also brings together member organizations, like the CFDT. The first founding meetings of the movement took place on October 1 and 2, 2005 in Rennes.

– A movement that was created in response to the French “no” and that seeks to restore citizens’ interest and liking for Europe, by promoting a “europrogressisme”.
