What do you want to achieve with this project?

Elections to European parliament had historically one the worst turnouts in Slovakia among all EU countries, only 12% in 2014, very low even in comparison with national elections. European parliament and European politics in general are usually neglected by the mainstream media and avoided to a large degree by the politicians from all relevant parties, creating a vicious circle of ignorance, disregard and antipathy toward the European project. The results being not only wavering support of the European Union among general population but also the possibility of candidates with very little democratic legitimacy to acquire the office.

It is reasonable to worry that with the very low turnout the elections could become a ground to start or further extremist views and personalities such as far right politicians with ties to neonazi scene. In this project, we will analyze the voting history of current Slovak MEPs and relevant candidates to 2019 elections; we will showcase their anti-european, anti-democratic, racist, xenophobic, anti-semitic, homophobic and islamophobic statements as well as spreading of fake news, conspiracies and HOAXes.

What are the details of the project?

We will publish these outrageous statements online, as memes, infographics and videos to reach wider audiences. We want to make sure that people will „know who they vote for“ and with this name-and-shame campaign we will both inform the public about their views and mobilize to vote for democratic alternatives.
