The European Network of Houses for Debate "Time to Talk$ (TTT) is a network of initiatives/centers that are devoted to regularly organising rigorous discussions on important issues for our societies; that take a critical approach to these tough issues, while including a variety of voices from across the political spectrum, and including newly emerging voices.

These initiatives/centers organize live face-to-face discussions, which are open to a general audience and involve these public audiences in the debate. In other words, we are in the business of promoting intellectual curiosity, challenging people's own orthodoxies, and promoting the culture of argument in an era of digital echo-chambers.

Objectives

The members of “Time to Talk” are organizations that aim at stimulating citizen-involving debates in their contexts. The combined efforts of the Time to Talk members thus adds up to keeping the vital debates on current issues alive across Europe.

The thrust of the network is  about raising awareness of the important work done by debate initiatives across Europe and pointing to what we, who do that work, know so well: that what brings societies together and what moves them forward, is their citizens’ capacity to deliberate, to respectfully disagree with each other and thereby to remain open-minded and curious about the world around them.

Main Activities
  • organizing debates across Europe on common themes of relevance and importance (for example: a debate series What’s wrong with Europe? What does the future hold for Europe? realized in 2013-2014; The crisis of trust in Europe, 2014-2015; The State of Key European Values and the Future of Europe (2015 – 2016).
  • The members of the European Network of Houses for Debate “Time to Talk” meet once a year to discuss future collaborations and the further development of the network. These meetings take place in different member centers each year, allowing us a more intimate glimpse into each other’s work and the opportunity to personally encounter the regions and issues, we have been discussing.
  • The network maintains a website where video highlights of the debates are being posted, debates are live-streamed, and other relevant information is being published (www.tttdebates.org)
