Main Activities

Make Decisions about Europe: The European Union Student Simulation

This project took place within the Czech and Slovak Republic, to be specific, all the regional capitals were included (Praha, České Budějovice, Plzeň, Karlovy Vary, Ústí nad Labem, Liberec, Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Jihlava, Brno, Olomouc, Ostrava, Zlín, Bratislava, Trnava, Nitra, Trenčín, Ţilina, Banská Bystrica, Prešov, Košice). The main topics of the project was getting more closer the European union to young people, explain them their possibilities of engaging and bring them opportunity to communicate with other young persons from different country about democracy, politics, policy, etc.The time duration was 7 month.

This project aims to increase the knowledge of the youth (high school pupils, 15 – 19 years) about the European Union. The goal is to get the young people interested into the European integration and create a base for their own self-improvement in the area of this topic; broaden the information and initiate a discussion about the European topics.

For the purposes of this project, special interactive presentation was created, so the participants could be actively included into the lectures. For these reasons, the project was to be a mixture of the expert lesson with the practical part. The practical section was an integral part of every lecture and had the form of a realistic simulation of the Council of the EU negotiations and compromise-making. The participants took place in this simulation in order to get a practical knowledge.

800 participants took part in 21 lectures in regions and 27 participants in the European Union Student Simulation in the age between 15 and 19 years. Another 25 young people took place in whole project as realization team.

Despite the importance of the European parliament, one can still see the decreasing election participation, not only in the Czech Republic. Also the general knowledge on the EU is in the Czech Republic very low.
