Parltrack is a European initiative to improve the transparency of legislative processes. It combines information on dossiers, representatives, vote results and committee agendas into a unique database and allows the tracking of dossiers using email and RSS. Most of the data presented is also available for further processing in JSON format. Using Parltrack it's easy to see at a glance which dossiers are being handled by committees and MEPs.

Parltrack started in 2011, but has been preceded by less accessible tools by the author.
This work has also been inspired by an ancestry of similar tools developed by highly technical NGOs. The reason for the parltrack data to exist was to provide accurate data in the opposition to the Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), where it has been used in the field and in the campaigns as a basis.

Objectives

Supporting citizens representing their interests in the European Union by providing relevant and timely data on the happenings in the European Parliament, using free software and publishing the results in a aggregated fashion and also in formats that are computer-processable. So that other initiatives can reuse this data more easily. For example http://lobbyplag.eu and https://memopol.lqdn.fr both are based on the data liberated by parltrack.

Main Activities

Maintenance and development of new parltrack features, keeping an eye on the things happening in the EP. Latest new feature is http://eu.mirrors.as250.net where parltrack mirrored all the videos of important hearings on the NSA spying in the European Parliament.

Strengths

All products are completely free, reuse is encouraged.
