Coalition to make whistleblowing safe during COVID-19
April 6th, 2020
Transparency International EU (TI EU) is part of the global anti-corruption movement, Transparency International, which includes over 100 chapters around the world. Since 2008, Transparency International EU has functioned as a regional liaison office for the global movement and as such it works closely with the Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin, Germany.
Transparency International EU’s mission is to prevent corruption and promote integrity, transparency and accountability in EU institutions, policies and legislation.
Transparency International EU leads the movement’s EU advocacy, in close cooperation with national chapters worldwide, but particularly with the 24 national chapters in EU Member States.
The overarching focus of our advocacy is to persuade EU policy makers to provide the legislation, data, mechanisms and space necessary for citizens to come together to fight corruption.
Three priorities guide our activities:
EU money and politics, focused on improving the transparency, accountability and decision-making of EU institutions.
Financial crime and financial flows, focused on EU transparency reforms that will enhance civil society monitoring of financial flows and the prevention and detection of financial crimes.
EU as an anti-corruption champion, focused on the EU’s efforts to facilitate anti-corruption efforts of governments in Member States and non-EU countries, in particular by creating a space for meaningful engagement with civil society.
One of TI EU’s strengths is its credibility and its good relationships with the EU policy-making community. Delivering the right information to the right people at the right time is the bedrock of TI EU’s success so far.
As an anti-corruption and transparency organisation, we have a track-record in building strong coalitions and engaging with like-minded stakeholders and citizens from across the political spectrum.
We work very closely with TI national chapters, CSO networks, youth organisations, open data activists, business, trade unions and academia.
Through pan-European coalitions SDG Watch, All for Democracy, On Our Watch and TI EU’s Eurozone Governance Watch network, we organise activities across all EU countries, aiming to place EU transparency and anti-corruption policies at the heart of EU governance reform.
Transparency International EU is an independent non-profit organisation supported by a number of public and private donors. Our funding can be unrestricted or tied to specific projects or programmes.
Transparency International EU’s 2021 budget is around 1.1 mln euros.
Our work is currently supported by the following partners: Transparency International Secretariat, Adessium Foundation, Sigrid Rausing Charitable Trust, Open Society Foundations, European Commission Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development, European Commission Directorate General Regional Policy, King Baudouin Foundation, Financial Transparency Coalition, and Luminate.
