What do you want to achieve with this project?

In its Communication “A Union of equality: EU anti-racism action plan 2020-2025”, the Commission announced that it would look into possible gaps related to EU legislation prohibiting discrimination based on ethnic or racial origin. It stressed that racist and discriminatory behaviours can be structurally embedded in institutions and drew attention to the risks new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence systems, can pose to equal treatment. The Commission’s report adopted on 19 March 2021 on the application of Directive 2000/43/EC pointed at some limitations in the Directive’s scope. It also referred to the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on some ethnic groups.

The purpose of this consultation is to help the Commission to identify such potential gaps and suitable measures to address them. It will gather data on experiences of discrimination based on ethnic or racial origin, opinions related to the legal protection against such discrimination and possible future improvements.
