Sports as a tool to promote tolerance, participation and awareness raising

Citizens for Europe is happy to support with 1.500€ the special Outreach Programme of the Belgrade PlayOut Tennis Open 2019 ! This programme, also supported by the Belgrade Pride, will help a selected few tennis players with making their wish to join the GLTA’s first ever event in the Balkans come true.
The purpose of the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) is to provide an open, safe, inclusive space and community that is committed to promoting and developing amateur tennis in the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender) Community.

Taking place from May 31st until June 2nd, the Belgrade PlayOut Open 2019 will be the first tennis tournament dedicated to LGBTQ community ever played in South East Europe. All the matches will be played on the clay courts of the Tennis Club Partizan, the most successful tennis club in Serbia founded in 1950 where the most famous Serbian tennis players started their careers such as Novak Djoković, Ana Ivanović, Jelena Dokic, Janko Tipsarević, Nenad Zimonjić, Dusan Lajović, Bojana Jovanovski and even Andrea Petković. Besides sports, the tournament will also leave space for social events, including a movie night with the Serbian premiere of the queer movies “Scar Tissue” & “Free Fall”.

With its support, Citizens for Europe wishes to contribute to the GLTA efforts to use sports as a tool for participation and awareness raising and reaffirms its commitment towards a more participatory, inclusive and diverse Europe.

If you are from South-East Europe region, if you are a student and/or if you are currently facing economic difficulties this opportunity is for you !
